On March 6th, Melissa and I had our first “official” book signing of The Everything Guide to Writing Graphic Novels at the Barnes and Noble in Middletown, RI.

Much to my surprise—and even a degree of irritation—we sold every copy of the book in the store within the first hour. Employees were even scrounging through the back room for any spare copies that might have been overlooked.

It actually became something of a mob scene, with people standing in a queue and milling about—the few Outlanders novels in the store were snatched from the shelves as well, including the last, lonely copy of Aftermath that had someone survived a B&N writer’s function I participated in a year ago.

We were gratified by the support we received from the community, with friends and colleagues showing up from all over, like horror novelist Doug Clegg, his partner Raul.

Our Adams Media editor, Lisa Laing attended as well (here she is with Melissa and me, as I mug for the camera—trust me, that’s really what I was doing).

It was a very gracious gesture of support on Lisa's part and we appreciated how she congratulated and thanked us for doing such a nice job on the book. It’s nice when your work is acknowledged as having value and you’re treated respectfully.

Melissa is working her third book for Adams at this moment, and I’ll be probably write another one for them in the near future as well.

We thank everybody who took the time and went to the effort to attend the signing, even if you arrived too late to buy a book. We’ll make it up to you, we promise.
